ML Training with Haven Banks/Exeter College

One of our ML Training Courses in the Autumn of 2013 was with staff from Haven Banks Centre in Exeter and students from Exeter College. The course was run over two midweek sessions. The first was in the South West with an overnight wild camp on Dartmoor. We chose the same location used with Bicton College earlier in the year and were rewarded with a good two days of clear, dry weather.

The second midweek session was in Snowdonia. The weather was in a very unsettled phase but fortunately, our second day coincided with a short, settled spell. We managed to spend the day on Crib Goch and Garnedd Ugain and ultimately, had excellent visibility. The highlight of the day was seeing a ‘Brocken Spectre’. This is caused when the sun casts your shadow on the cloud below leaving a halo around your reflection. You only ever see your own reflection.
